Standing Together Against Rape (STAR)
Concerning Domestic Violence
March 12, 2010
The STAR Board and Staff denounce domestic violence and sexual assault in all forms and against all people. Many of STAR’s clients have experienced domestic violence. We are disappointed and disheartened to hear Mr. Spicola has a history of domestic violence. We were not made aware of his prior history until after his interview with Channel 11 news on Monday, March 8, 2010.
This incident points to the importance of the Governor’s initiative against domestic violence and sexual assault; an initiative that seeks to fully fund domestic violence and sexual assault organizations, so we can remain focused on prevention, education, and response.
It also points to the prevalence of domestic violence and sexual assault in our State and in our neighborhoods. It is why victim service agencies exist and why we do the work we do.
STAR staff and board work tirelessly to serve the community through 24-hour response and educational services. We are grateful to every individual and corporation that supports STAR. STAR continues to be a good steward of the dollars we receive and we use those funds to continue the mission of STAR. “Our mission is to provide the best quality of crisis intervention, education & advocacy services to victims of sexual assault, their families, and our community”.
