Those Who Harm

All sex offenders were someone’s friendly neighbor, nice co-worker, good friend, or trusted family member …...........before they got caught.

73% of victims know the rapist
                                                   (RAINN, 2011)

They are friends, partners, neighbors, acquaintances, co-workers and fellow students.

Most Who Harm

  • Believe they have the right to sex regardless of consent.
  • Believe that using any means necessary to gain sex is okay.
  • Disregard another person’s feelings or needs.
  • Violate another person’s boundaries.
  • Use someone’s trust to manipulate sex.

Society would like us to believe that a rapist is someone who jumps out of the bushes wearing a ski mask. But in reality most sex offenders are charming, handsome, and seem trustworthy.

The Warning Signs

  • He/she does not listen to your needs or concerns
  • He/she repeatedly violates your limits.
  • He/she makes you feel nervous or uncomfortable.
  • He/she puts you in a position where you are unable or too afraid to stop them.

It is ok to leave a situation if a person exceeds or ignores your boundaries, limits or refusals.

A rapist is the only one who can stop a rape from occurring.  However, the more you, your friends, and family know reality of offenders AND have a plan if anything should ever happen, the SAFER you will be from sexual violence.
